Campus Police Raid Long Haul; Seize Computers, Disks, Drives

Campus Police, guns drawn, raided the Long Haul Infoshop Wednesday morning, seizing 13 computers and other gear, but the reason remains a mystery.

The building, which houses a collection of individual organizations ranging from the Needle Exchange to the East Bay Prisoner Support, was targeted by a team of at least seven officers. read more »

Nomadic Rewilder Finisia Medrano Incarcerated in Idaho....

On July 29, 2008 during Finisia's journey to Berry Camp, she camped along the Salmon River near Challis, Idaho, and was planting native plants along the river bank. A Forest Service officer stopped to question Finisia about her activities. She was uncooperative and was arrested for obstructing/resisting an officer.

As of August 16, Finisia is still incarcerated in the Lemhi County Jail in Salmon, Idaho.
She wrote a letter to the Lemhi County Court and mailed a copy to me, requesting that I post it here for all to read.

Iraq War resister Robin Long convicted, 15 months in stockade

August 22, 2008 -Courage to Resist

Breaking news: Robin Long was convicted of desertion today at Ft. Carson, Colorado and sentenced to 15 months in the stockage and a dishonorable discharge. Many supporters were turned away for the court room and had to stand outside. A protest vigil is scheduled for 5:00 pm this evening at the Ft. Carson Main Gate. More info coming soon read more »

Attack on Berkeley Oak Grove

At 9:00 the university submitted a letter to Judge Miller who placed an injunction against cutting the Oak grove. Before she responded the University had arborist extractors cutting limbs off of trees. They started between 9:15 and 9:30. They cut many limbs from the redwood tree with four tee sitters in it. They were stopped from cutting more by tree sitter actions. People began to gather on the ground and decry the Universities actions and to video tape. Soon mainstream news crews were there as well. Then many limbs were cut off of two or more oak trees in the middle of the grove. read more »

LeGrand Jones in Court Tacoma Wednesday 1:30PM

LeGrand Jones, a National Lawyer's Guild attorney from Olympia, was arrested for refusing an illegal demand by police to see his ID at the Port of Tacoma recently. The police have been using demands for ID as one of several harassment tactics towards anti-war demonstrators at the port. LeGrand will use his hearing tomorrow to creatively demonstrate against these tactics by police. Supporters and press are advised to attend.

POSTVILLE, Iowa, (AFP) - Led by 43 women with electronic tracking bracelets on their ankles, hundreds of people from around the country marched down main street here Sunday to protest the biggest immigration raid in US history at a kosher meat plant that has split this tiny Iowa town asunder.

Released from jail so they can take care of their families, the 43 women out front were among 390 mainly Guatemalan and Mexican workers arrested by federal agents May 12 at the Agriprocessors meat factory and charged with identity theft. read more »
