His theories on history and the origins of terrorism are widely respected and his books are used as college texts. His views have influenced not only Hillary Clinton but also John Howard the former Prime Minister of Australia. MARCO, Afghanistan (AFP) - At least one person was killed and several wounded in Afghanistan Saturday when police opened fire to disperse a protest accusing US-led soldiers of killing civilians, witnesses said.
The clash erupted in the eastern province of Nangarhar as demonstrators tried to block a road to demonstrate against the killing of three men in a military operation overnight, witnesses said. read more »

We welcome and support the decision by the South African Transport and Allied Workers Union for their workers neither to unload nor transport the shipment of Chinese-made armaments destined for Zimbabwe. This is a very encouraging sign of working class solidarity and internationalism, and we hope that such actions will indeed prevent this weapons consignment from reaching its destination - the Zimbabwean Defence Force. read more »
Reports: Estimated 2,000 Protest Against US Radar Near Planned Site In Czech Republic

On Saturday, police spokeswoman Ilona Tymlova said that an estimated 2 thousand people gathered in a Czech village to protest against the placing a US missile shield base in a nearby military zone, according to reports. The protesters then marched in rain from Misov, southwest of Prague, to the limits of the Brdy military zone in what was one of the largest protests against the US radar.
The Czech Defence Ministry said that Czech and US negotiators are likely to wrap up missile defence talks next week. The Czech-US agreement requires approval in parliament where the centre-right ruling coalition so far lacks clear support for the project. read more »

US death toll in Iraq war hits 4,000

BAGHDAD - A roadside bomb killed four U.S. soldiers in Baghdad on Sunday, the military said, pushing the overall American death toll in the five-year war to at least 4,000. The grim milestone came on a day when at least 61 people were killed across the country.
Rockets and mortars pounded the U.S.-protected Green Zone, underscoring the fragile security situation and the resilience of both Sunni and Shiite extremist groups despite an overall lull in violence. read more »
